Day 7 - Elko, Nevada

We left Ogden this morning around 9:00 am and headed to Elko, Nevada.  The ride was rough...Lots of wind again.  That makes the trip very stressful driving for Rick.

We checked into the Iron Horse RV Park.  Very nice!  We have a beautiful view of the mountains.

After checking, we decided to explore Elko.  We found the Northeastern Nevada Museum.  What a find!  It was great!

There is a section of animals from all over -

from Elephants to groundhogs

There is a section dedicated to early pioneering - medical,

printing press, lace and hats, basketry,

guns, guns and more guns, and more!

It was a great place and had a wonderful gift shop!  Thankfully we can't buy much since we wouldn't have any more room!

Then we drove to the downtown area and were able to catch a glimpse of some of the 51 murals here!  We didn't find them all but here is a glimpse of some we did find...

Chicago had cows, Ontonagon had porcupines and Elko has boots!

We had hoped to stay another night here, but it seems that the snow is coming - isn't it supposed to be Spring?? - so we will head closer to our final destination.

And as we have seen pretty much through out the trip, it is 5:00 pm and the sun decided to come out! So we are sitting outside and enjoying a much deserved glass of wine.  Michigan  Awesome Blueberry Wine. Never tried this one and it is phenomenal!

And tonight we cooked again!  This time we used our Electric Lunch Boxes.  It is kind of like a mini-slow cooker.  So we each can spice up things to our taste. We prepared chicken, rice, orange pepper, onion and zucchini.  I did mine with a teriyaki sauce and Rick used a dumpling sauce and he added cashews.  It took about 40 minutes to cook.  The veggie remain a bit crispy and everything is cooked perfectly!  Another success!!

There is a heated pool at this campground.  It is 47 degrees but the kids are swimming!  I just heard one little girl ask; "does it get warmer if you stay in?"  This reminds me of the years of making our kids stay out of Lake Superior until at least Memorial Day!  And the one year, long ago, our oldest granddaughter , Cara, and Karsten were out swimming over Memorial Day Weekend (they were probably 5 and 7 ish) and Cara asked Karsten: "Can you still feel your feet?"

And here is a pic that we thought all our Yooper friends would enjoy!

As our day comes to an end, I can gaze out the window from my bed with gratitude.  Thankful for the  beautiful view this evening.

More tomorrow!

And the map...
