Day - 8 Virginia City

We hit the road from Elko, Nevada this morning about 9:15 am.  It was a sunny day and some beautiful vistas!

I chose the next destination because it looked "out of the way" (and it is!). The ride was good, albeit a bit windy again.  Does the wind ever give up?  But the sun was shining, and still is as I type this at 6:00 pm PST.

We have found a "Hidden Gem".  Virginia City is called "The Richest Place On Earth".  When I chose Virginia City, I only picked it because of its location on the Atlas...Yes, we are still using an Atlas - along with a Garmin and our phones...we are prepared!  (Or are we...). Little did we know that it would be an 8 mile drive up the mountains cumulating a gorgeous vista!

And now we are learning that this city is rich with American history!  Quite an adorable Victorian town, it still boasts a community pool with a diving board!  Historic mines, trolleys, homes, churches and the V&T Railroad steam engine.  We will explore some of these tomorrow.  To say "off the beaten track" is an understatement.  And yet, we here that it is quite a busy tourist location pretty much year round.

This is the view from our Roadtrek!

Today for our dinner, I made country style ribs and baby potatoes in the crockpot, with honey roasted corn and red peppers.  It was another good meal!  An NO leftovers!  Yay!

This evening we met Brian.  He is in the lot directly across from us.  He converted an old bus into his home and has been living in it for 7 years!  Rick and I were blessed with a tour! (Sorry, no pics) but it is amazing!  He used to work as an IT guy for ESPN, he has been a pilot and a host of other professions and for the next few months, he will be the trolley guide.  His rig is entirely off grid!  And he has full-sized appliances in his kitchen.  He only uses "old -fashioned" items, so no crockpots or electric lunch boxes for him.  He has a dutch oven and frying pans.

There is even a saloon here called Bucket of Blood that we will visit in honor of Rick and his buddies trip long ago in Indiana...That's a story for another day if you haven't already heard it!

And, of course, the map;)
