Day 20 - Nevada - Utah - Wyoming !


Today was all about crossing State lines!  Thankful once again for a beautiful day!  It did get a bit windy, but all-in-all it was good.

We began our trip from Wells, Nevada.  The landscape has just been breathtaking.  Rick and I decided to listen to a book I had picked at random from an Audible sale shortly before we left.  It is called "In An Instant" by Suzanne Redfearn.  So far, we are on chapter 75 and there is still 2 hours and 40 minutes left in the book!  We listened yesterday and again today.  Definitely a good choice and a very odd book, but it is keeping our attention!



We drove through Utah and stopped for fuel in Evanston.  This was the town we were not too pleased with on Easter Sunday.  However, we were at the other end of town this time and it seemed quite nice (and the gas station bathrooms were clean!  Not something you can count on regularly.)






A beautiful ride through Wyoming.  I am always amazed at the vastness of the mountains.  Each time we travel through, I have a new appreciation for what it must have been like for the pioneers trying to make the trek without any of our modern conveniences...like roads!


We ended our day in Rawlins, Wyoming.  A town not too unlike Ontonagon, as you will see in this pic!  Deer just meandering across the road!


There seems to be a lot of history in the area including the Wyoming State Penitentiary, a magnificent old Catholic Church and a house with a sign that reads if you want to see inside go to Airbnb.com.  


We are staying at the Western Hills Campground.  This place gets 5 Stars!  The bathrooms were amazingly clean, they have bath mats and lotions and sprays in the ladies room!  You can tell everything is handled with great care.  The view is the mountains and we watched the sunset while eating the country style ribs that had cooked in the crockpot all day.  (Sorry, forgot the pics again).

Tomorrow we plan to make it to Nebraska!   And I forgot the map yesterday...But here it is today:) (Just for you Jay!)

    Yikes 14 hours! I'm hurting just reading that. Now you hit the open plains so let's pray for good weather and winds stay calm. Love ya and stay safe.

  Day 5 - Easter morning, we left the AB Campground early to try to beat the extreme winds.  We were not successful.  Winds ranged from 20-40 mph with some gusts up to 65 mph!  And we even hit icy and snow covered roads.  Thankful for Rick's great driving and the Lord's protection. First we thought we would go as far as Laramie.  Then Rick thought, "well it's not too bad, let's keep going."  Then we got to Rawlins, which didn't seem to have much to offer and we continued on.  Made it to Rock Springs, and in hindsight, we probably should have stopped there or driven another 100 miles to Salt Lake City.  But we went to our intended destination of Evanston.  Not much in Evanston... Day 6 - A Fun Day!

  Day 6 - Finally a day to just enjoy where we are!  The weather was BEAUTIFUL! 71 degrees and sunny! We will take it!  We did some exploring around Ogden after a wonderful breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Cactus Reds.  Always love the Belgium Waffles!   We drove some winding roads that lead us to Ogden George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park .  What a cool place! Sorry all our little munchkins weren't with us, they would have loved it.  Hopefully they will all get here one day!   6 acres  of      LIFE -                 SIZE                            DINOSAURS and a visitors' center with actual dinosaur fossils found in this area.  I was unaware that this area had found so many dinosaur bones!  There were also amazing gem stones, a dig site and museum-esque hands-on areas to learn about the claws and teeth, sca...

We spent 24 days away and had an amazing time.  It was so wonderful to spend time with family along the way and with our California family, meet new people and make new friends.  Some days were beautiful, some days were grueling.  We saw rain, hail, sleet, snow, near hurricane strength winds and SUNSHINE!  We loved the sunshine! We drove 4,909 miles round trip.  We used 362.248 gallons of gas and averaged 13.55 miles per gallon.  Not bad considering we drove through the high winds, snow and mountains!   Now we are back, unpacked, laundry done and the RV cleaned up and stored for our next adventure.  Where will we go next???
